After
97 years of quest, the Philippines have finally won a gold medal in the Olympic
game. That gold was given by none other than an athlete from Mindanao, Hidilyn
Diaz. Hidilyn won her first Olympic gold in her favorite sport weightlifting! Before
getting the gold Diaz is also a silver medalist in the 2016 Rio Olympics. She
won her gold in the women’s 55-kilogram weightlifting. Aside from the gold
medal she also made an Olympic record of 127 kilograms. She was trained in
Malaysia by a Chinese coach for almost 7 months.
The
government will give her 10 million pesos as promised for any athlete who can
bring home a gold medal. Two private businessmen will also give her 10 million
each. She will take home an estimated 33 million pesos of cash! Aside from cash
prizes it was also published that she will receive a house and lot in Tagaytay
City! Her sacrifices are worthy! Congratulations Hidilyn Diaz!
